A taxonomy of intellectual demands.
A difficult question can require an unusual representation, an unspoken dependency, or the reconciliation of competing interpretations. Our design objective is to make that difficulty conceptually substantive.

An assessment discipline.
A question is only the beginning.
Understanding changes everything.
Every hesitation, revised answer and conceptual gap points to a better question.
Unfamiliar formulations. Deliberate constraints. The same underlying principle.
Follow the reasoning, examine the assumptions and understand why the answer holds.
Take the principle into a new problem. Build understanding that travels with you.
01 / Observational foundations
Learning patterns become a starting point for more exacting assessment design. Our 5,000-student data foundation informs unfamiliar formulations, consequential constraints, and questions that demand a deeper reconstruction of the underlying concept.

20% + 10% = 30%
Two percentages treated as if they share a base. The second transformation acts on the remaining quantity.

Supply the final value. Recover the initial quantity.
Two equal discounts. A specified cumulative reduction.
A difficult question can require an unusual representation, an unspoken dependency, or the reconciliation of competing interpretations. Our design objective is to make that difficulty conceptually substantive.
Reverse the calculation, change the unknown, or impose an additional condition. The formulation changes; the student must determine which relationships remain valid and which assumptions require reconsideration.
02 / Intellectual continuity
The value of learning evidence lies in the questions it helps us ask about question design: what must be interpreted, which relationship must be reconstructed, and where an apparently convincing approach becomes insufficient.

03 / Explanatory architecture
A detailed solution exposes the connective tissue of reasoning: the initial interpretation, the selection of a method, the intermediate deductions, and the conditions that make the conclusion defensible.
Examine quantitative practice ↗Formulation I / Forward composition
Let the original price be P = 100.
After the first discount: 100 × 0.80 = 80.
After the second: 80 × 0.90 = 72.
Equivalent reduction = (100 − 72) / 100 = 28%.
Why the method holds
Adding 20% and 10% assumes a common base. Successive discounts operate on different bases, so their retained fractions must be multiplied.
The same principle, examined from another direction.
Detailed explanations make the transition from one statement to the next available for scrutiny. Review the assumptions, inspect the intermediate relationships, and understand the conditions under which a method remains applicable.
Where supported, related-question practice extends the conceptual work of a review. You can also return to the same topic and examine how an understood relationship behaves under a different configuration of information.

25,000+ questions form the broader company corpus. Chapter organisation, difficulty selection, complete reading passages, and intact reasoning sets give this breadth a structure through which concepts can be encountered, interrogated, and revisited.
